Music Sunday in Canterbury

Canterbury Branch in Christchurch celebrated Music Sunday with an afternoon of sing-a-long hymns and anthems, familiar and new, with the audience of choristers including our Bishop, Victoria Matthews, singing with great joy. It was held in St Peter’s Church Hall – the church itself as well as our cathedrals are all unusable because of earthquake damage from three years ago.

A special feature was a bracket of anthems ancient and very modern sung by guest choristers, Schola Cantorum, accompanied by a chest of viols under the direction of Dr Roger Buckton of Canterbury University. He can be seen playing the Treble Viol (left) whilst deputy, David O’Bierne, conducts a Byrd motet, “Teach me oh Lord”.
