RSCM NZ (Canterbury Branch) Evensong

A joyous festive occasion has taken place in The Craighead Diocesan School Chapel Timaru. NZ

Royal School of Church Music Canterbury Branch choristers from Christchurch City travelled 160km to join members of South Canterbury’s St Mary’s, Timaru, choir, to sing a traditional Evensong.

St Marys Church has been temporarily closed while seismic evaluation is undertaken following the Christchurch earthquakes and the Parish is currently operating out of Craighead Diocesan School, Chapel.

This wooden building has a good acoustic and the combined choristers and an appreciative and participative congregation were uplifted by the pleasure of singing in it.

Murray Gibson, a Worship Leader and long standing member of the St Mary’s choir officiated. Paul Ellis, RSCM NZ President was organist and Jill Kerr of Christchurch, conducted ;

The Timaru people were most hospitable and turned on extensive refreshments before and after, and there was warm socialising that comes from gatherings of people with common interests, and out of the joy of singing together.
