This year (2014), Royal School of Church Music New Zealand celebrates 80 years of membership of world-wide RSCM (known in 1934 as the School of English Church Music – SECM).
Christchurch (Anglican) Cathedral (now in the Canterbury Branch) led the way.
For an example of celebratory events, go to Branches > Canterbury > News for music scores and details about the Christchurch 22 November Choral Fest at which RSCMNZ participants will be recognising the “birthday”. For more details, click on the link (blue lettering “80 rscmnz bday rev”.)
Auckland joined soon after and celebrates with a festive dinner on 28 November.
Wellington Branch, Waikato Branch (centred on Hamilton) and Otago and Southland (centred on Dunedin) followed with enlistments at various dates thereafter.
The charismatic founder, Sir Sydney Nicholson, had visited NZ all those years ago with the result that these current five NZ branches became affiliates of the parent body.
Each of these are remembering the occasion of their joining with various events.
Go to Branches > the branch nearest you > newsletter or items about the branch’s activities.
Help them with organisation by letting the Branch office-bearers know immediately your intention to attend/participate in any relevant celebration(s).
