Canterbury Choral Fest

A feast of music and fun will be remembered fondly by all the participating choral resources from the Christchurch region joining for a unique Choral Fest. On 22 November 2014 at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral Manchester Street they formed category clusters to present to one another and an enthusiastic and fullsome audience works ranging from ecclesiastical motets to barber shop beauties and mystical ethnical examples, the like of which most had never heard before but eager for more. Under the sure hands of organiser, Don Whelan (with assistance from Paul Ellis, RSCMNZ President), Brian Law, Anglican Cathedral D of M, Nicholas Sutcliffe (Organ), Michael Lawrence (Piano), Grant Hutchinson, Jubilate Singers Music Director, and a raft of the other doyens of Canterbury music, the evening presented an avalanche of choral music of every genre imaginable. In full flight, the Sweet Adelines are pictured performing as one of the highlights of the concert. (Photograph, courtesy of Matt Melchert of St Peter’s Choir – Church Corner Christchurch)
