Auckland Organ Scholars Succeed

Depicted in front of the Holy Cross Church, Albany, organ, with their tutor, Dave Brookes, are Auckland organ scholars, Claire West (grade 6 Piano with distinction 2013) and David Finlay (ATCL) at a presentation on 14 December 2014, by Barrie Collett, on behalf of the Auckland Organists’ Association and Anne Connolly-Munt, founder of the ACM Scholarship. They were both awarded scholarships: an Anne Connolly-Munt Organ Scholarship for David and for Claire an Eric Winston Memorial Organ Trust Scholarship administered by the AOA. Both also received an ACM Scholarship for further study during 2015. Their tutor (who also serves as secretary RSCMNZ Auckland Branch) commented, ” . . . The remarkable progress that these two young people have made during this year shows what can be achieved by keen and talented musicians.” Monthly organ recitals have been instrumental in helping complete payments for the new organ and they are scheduled to continue. Both Claire and David have been involved and will continue to play a part in this endeavour.
