Opportunity for church organist

St Peter’s Anglican Church, Upper Riccarton Christchurch, seeks a professional relief organist from Monday 20 April to Sunday 4 October, inclusive, to cover whilst the regular incumbent is on sabbatical leave.

Successful appointee will be responsible for the direction of the choir and provision of music at the weekly 9.30 am service.
He or she will be expected to conduct a weekly choir practice on a Thursday night plus a pre-service practice at 9.00 am on Sunday. The choir has a 20+ membership and sings in 4 part SATB. There are also instrumentalists.

The Choir sings a weekly anthem plus music during the communion. There is also music associated with the liturgy.

Duties include:
i) liaison and working with the Worship Planner and clergy regarding the appropriate choice of hymns and other music on a weekly basis.

ii) provision of suitable music before and at the conclusion of the service.

iii) being available to play for funerals and weddings.

Requirements: a good sense of humour, leadership abilities, good communication and organisational skills, good keyboard skills and musical knowledge, plus ability to lead worship.
