Holy Trinity Cathedral has chosen to recognise RSCM’s world-wide Music Sunday at its 21 June 5.00pm Evensong Service.
On its website Trinity Life pages it refers to Music Sunday as being featured during the Service.
It joins millions of worshippers world-wide who recognise June 21 as a propitious day in the calendar.
Throughout the world RSCM branches on or near this date feature in Services and conduct events celebrating the place of music in worship and our lives overall.
In Auckland, 5.00pm Choral Evensong at Holy Trinity Cathedral will celebrate with music sung by St Mary’s Singers conducted by Anita Banbury. They will sing ‘Cantate Domino’ (Pitoni), ‘Exultate Deo’ (Scarlatti) and ‘Let all the world sing’ (Vaughan Williams).
The cathedral on its Trinity Life pages refers to:
“Music Sunday as being celebrated internationally on this day, the longest in the northern hemisphere. For us, of course, it is the shortest day, but what better day to ‘sing in’ the lengthening of days and the hope that [this] symbolises.”
