Musicians and supporters gather with Saints

Combined St Mark's Remuera and All SaintsBrian Millar (Auckland Branch RSCMNZ) reports: “This evening (Sunday 3 July) St Mark’s choir, Remuera, Auckland, travelled south to combine with the recently formed choir at All Saints Matamata (Waikato Branch RSCMNZ) to sing Evensong. About 30 singers, double that number in the congregation, enjoyed a great liturgical and musical experience plus a fabulous spread after the service! Simple music in one sense, but it had to be sung well (and it was) – Thomas Morley Mag and Nunc; Ferial Preces and Responses; Lead me Lord (S. Wesley) as the anthem; and a responsorial psalm well sung by congregation and choirs. David Brookes and I shared the organ and conducting; accurate cantor singing from a Matamata cleric and a Matamata choir member; three good old warhorse hymns (For all the saints; Ye servants of God; The day thou gavest). Most enjoyable. Thanks All Saints for your generous hospitality.”
