Canterbury Branch observed Music Sunday 18 June at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral Christchurch as part of a week-long Arts Festival (under the guiding hand of committee member Don Whelan).
Church and school choirs gathered to perform to one another and supporters selected hymns and motets as well as massed items.
The programme (Piloted by President Paul Ellis with Dr John Linker Dir. of Music Transitional – Cardboard’ – Cathedral) featured Medbury School Choristers, under the leadership of Chrissie Badger, All Souls Choir led by Murray Lennox with Sue Lennon accompanying, and solo vocalist Matthew Harris performing selections from Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan Williams and Transitional Cathedral organist Harry Meehan playing Chanson by Elgar. Mozart’s Ave Verum and Stanford’s Psalm 150 sung by the massed choirs provided a fitting climax.
