President Ellis Honoured
RSCMNZ President Paul V Ellis has been recognised in the 2019 New Year’s Honours list by The Queen for his countless years of service to the world of music as a teacher, choir director, organist, mentor for young advancing students and contributing especially in the field of church music. He was awarded MNZM (Member of the NZ Order of Merit). In addition to his role as President and Chairman of the RSCMNZ National Council, he also serves as Chairman of the Canterbury Branch. His current church appointment is Director of Music at St Michael and All Angels (SMAA) located next to St Michael’s Church School, Durham Street, in the CBD of Christchurch. He is also a Fellow of the Royal School of Church Music (FRSCM).
He is pictured at RSCMNZ Canterbury Branch’s 2018 Music Sunday accompanying the massed choir on the Rogers hybrid organ (traditional pipes combined with electronic audio). This is a resource situated at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Manchester Street Christchurch, and serves for the earthquake affected Barbadoes Street Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament (CBS).
