“The versatile Organ” Concert

Morrinsville Methodist Church 19th July 2026

On Sunday afternoon we had a treat as David Brookes presented a variety of music on the Morrinsville Methodist Church Pipe organ. This organ had been installed in the church since 1962 and was never digitalised, so the sound was pure pipe organ.

The screen in front of the organ had been removed so the audience could see how the pedals and the stops worked. It was certainly versatile as many different voices of the organ were expressed. A near full church audience, made up of the local community, churches, members of RSCM
and many others from around the district were welcomed.

David was able to demonstrate many aspects of the organ through his choice of pieces that varied from traditional organ and Church music, to Film music, meditative music, modern music and singalong music and enthusiastic march tunes.

Along with David’s presentation, we also heard a bracket of lovely songs from the Morrinsville Community choir, who reminded us of the need for love and peace in the world today.

Following the concert, RSCM Waikato, under the leadership of Koli Jayatunge, presented the Nicholson (International ) award to Glenis Westbury, acknowledging her service to her church and community of 64 years of service playing the organ for the Methodist Church in Morrinsville as well as at rest homes, other churches, weddings, funerals and many other occasions. Unfortunately, Glenis was unable to accept the reward herself, due to ill health but this was accepted on her behalf by her husband Neville. Our love and thoughts go to Glenis at this time.

Following this wonderful occasion, David was thanked and many took the opportunity to inspect the organ and catch up with friends and colleagues over a cup of tea. All in all it was an afternoon of enthusiastic enjoyment from all who attended.
