Organ Concert – David Brookes

All Saints Church, Matamata

What a wonderful concert David Brookes presented in All Saints Church Matamata.

Comments included- awesome, foot-tapping and more than enjoyable.

M.C. Lindsay Tisch introduced the programme of organ music, which was interspersed with the singing of five hymns.

David began the programme with a rendering of Handel’s celebrated ‘largo’. Thiswas in response to the invitation of RSCM England for organists around the world to play this piece at 2.00pm on 22nd November, and New Zealand as a country was the first in the world.

Those who attended the concert were invited into a real fruit salad of organ music. All genres from well-known classics, to hymn singing, to show tunes, to well-known favourites, and finishing with a march- ‘Liberty Bell’.

This was not only enjoyable, but for those of us who only hear the organ being played on Sunday mornings, we were given a treat on how versatile the organ is. David’s skills were evident as he played, and he obviously enjoyed what he was playing

All Saints are very fortunate to have such a great pipe organ, and an accomplished musician. Entry to the concert was a Koha, which was presented at the conclusion of the concert to a representative of the Matamata Pohlen Hospital Trust

Doris Elphick.
